Abby Caplin

  • Biography:

I’ve practiced mind-body medicine in San Francisco since 2002. I help people with chronic illness find their direction and tap into their strength and power by uncovering meaning in the midst of suffering. I help them get in touch with unsuspected resilience, to live a full life despite the challenges.

I completed a pediatric residency in Houston, Texas, and an allergy-immunology fellowship in San Francisco, followed by private practice as an allergist for nine years. I have a master’s degree in Integral Counseling Psychology and have lived with Crohn’s disease for over 25 years.

In addition to my private practice in mind-body medicine, I conduct a series of classes entitled “Mind-Body Health Writing” in San Francisco for people with chronic illness.

I’ve served as a faculty member of “The Healer’s Art” for many years, a course for first-year medical students at the University of California San Francisco. Conducted by Rachel Naomi Remen, MD, it allows for safe exploration of topics such as grief and loss, and reclaiming awe and mystery in the practice of medicine.
