I paint both impressionist landscapes and abstract watercolors. When a subject cannot be fully captured by one of these genres, the genres may blend into a what is called a 'representational abstract' in which a 'realist' subject is captured and 'represented' in 'abstract' form.
In the painting depicted here, I perceived RESILIENCE in the fragility and decline of rural America - in a cluster of old decaying farm houses surrounded by machinery and mines from a bygone era. The subject reminded me of the resilience I see each day in medicine among patients, peers, and trainees - especially now in the 2020 pandemic.
